About Maggie

My name is Maggie Simpson and I graduated UC Berkeley in May 2014 with an English degree and an emphasis in Math and Business. I rowed for the Bears and lettered all four years, winning NCAAs with the Varsity 8 in 2013. For my 5th year, I threw the hammer for Cal's Track and Field team, lettered by scoring at the Big Meet, and was voted most inspirational athlete by my teammates. I also played bass in the UC Berkeley Symphony Orchestra.

During my 5 years at Cal, I tutored a variety of subjects such as Calculus, Statistics, and English at the Athletic Study Center. I also worked as a peer adviser for incoming freshman athletes, helping them become accustom to life at the university.

In 2012, I founded Sisters Network, a company dedicated to helping women with character and passion achieve their vision, grow the community Sisters creates, and make money for the members to sustain the growing company.

My Tutoring Philosophy

I believe that every student approaches the learning process differently, and it is the job of a tutor to best facilitate growth and understanding. I specialize in Math, specifically Calculus, Statistics, Geometry, and Algebra. I believe the foundations of a love for math are often lost in high school, so I encourage students' exploration of the subjects through trial and error, as well as broader explanations and direct, step by step methodology. I have always understood writing and reading comprehension through an algorithmic approach. I help students break down the writing process into a linear function. Building on an emphasis in structure, with the thesis or argument as the core element, we generate a foundation- an outline onto which the student's ideas can be properly explored. I believe in the development of a strong base of knowledge and love for learning.
